: Ever wondered how those crazy Finns dance at their local nightclub? Now you can find out for yourself (though I think it's an Estonian couple, as I can under stand them a little, and they are definately counting in Estonian. Uks, kaks, kolm, neli is one, two, three four. Not that you needed to know that). Permanent link

: Former Britain's most hated man Jeremy Beadle has died.
Marcus: Really sad. By some weird coincidence I was humming the "Beadle's About" theme this evening (before I heard the news).
justin: Aww what a shame... he was synonymous with Candid Camera style pranks. Also, the classic gag "On one hand Jeremy Beadle has a tiny little hand... but on the other hand he doesn't" - because he had a tiny hand.
Dave: I believe the joke went "Jeremy Beadle has a small dick, on the other hand, it's quite big".
justin: Yeah, I remembered that today. I couldn't be bothered to correct my post. I held a one-minute silence for him today.

Gareth: Nick has a small... yeah.

Marcus: Only problem is Engadget seems to be overwhelmed with traffic (the page is more or less down). Try MacRumors Live.
Marcus: Twitter is slow as hell too; Tom Coates of Plasticbag.org is tweeting live from the keynote.
Marcus: New iPhone firmware is out - mmm, jailbreaking-breaking-tastic. I'll pass on that for now thanks.
Chris: New features for the iPod touch - but if you've already bought one, it's $20 to upgrade. Apple gouges the early adopters once again.
Marcus: MacBook Air looks pretty sweet.
Marcus: $20 for a few apps that already came with the iPhone as standard is superweak. A jailbroken iPod touch can get them for free anyway. This gaffe is likely going to drive iPod touch users to jailbreak out of sheer righteous indignation, I reckon.
Marcus: The MacBook air has a multitouch trackpad. That's pretty cute.
justin: Oh when will Mac users learn?
gareth: A stream of the actual keynote
Dave: Fools. Rich Fools.

justin: Bastard. I just infected my decent flatmate with 'the game' - then two minutes later asked her how she was doing: "I've just lost the game!" - the thing that amused me was the belligerent look that came over her face when she was just about to tell me how she was winning the game because she couldn't remember it. Ho ho.

justin: Here's an idea: we're allowed to listen to these songs for free because radio stations play them and because they pay for licences with advertisers money - songs sell products. So what happens when we buy products because we want them, not because we have just been advertised to? can we have a free listen?

“Space is big. Really big. You just won’t believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist’s, but that’s just peanuts to space."
chris: In fact, Betelgeuse is so big that if you put it at the centre of our solar system, the Earth's whole orbit would be inside it.
Chris: According to some astronomers, it's so big that you could fit Jupiter's orbit inside it. That's definitely a big star.

Marcus: No sweat identifying the more obscure "Cold Water Music" by Aim, although it appears to stumble on "I Like Birds" by eels and "S'il Vous Plait" by Fantastic Plastic Machine.

justin: Hopefully when they are home though.
Marcus: It's inevitably a bit of a letdown when you've planned this special surprise and the magazine editor's not at home. My tip is to carry out extensive surveillance of their home for a month or two beforehand. Get to know their routines. To really "get inside their heads" you should break into their house, try on their clothes and parade around in front of the mirror blowing kisses at yourself.
Marcus: When they're not at home though, obviously!

justin: "Jos Stam is standing on a pearl-white beach under a cloudless sky. He is visiting his parents, who are vacationing in Faro, a medieval town on Portugal's Algarve coast. Stam, a 41-year-old computer scientist specializing in 3-D graphics, doesn't look at the world the way the rest of us do. Reality is a binary riddle to be cracked, a series of fleeting images best appreciated after they've been rendered into 1s and 0s. Even here, watching the waves hit a beach in Portugal, his thoughts drift, as they always do, toward numbers. He begins scribbling in a small black notebook filled with mathematical interpretations of everything he sees."
