Marcus: Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex: a classic 1971 article by scifi author Larry Niven about the dangers of Superman impregnating an earth woman. (via)
Marcus:
Racy amusing stuff, especially when you consider the vintage.
Marcus:
"Metropolis is shaken by tiny sonic booms. Wormholes, charred by meteoric heat, sprout magically in all kinds of things: plate glass, masonry, antique ceramics, electric mixers, wood, household pets, and citizens. Some of the sperm will crack lightspeed. The Metropolis night comes alive with a network of narrow, eerie blue lines of Cherenkov radiation."
chris:
[engaging geek mode] Niven's one of my favourite SF writers - I have an autographed copy of the book which contains that short story.
chris:
And he's in the Penguin dictionary of quotations with this gem: "The best advice I was ever given was on my twenty-first birthday when my father said, 'Son, here's a million dollars. Don't lose it.'"
