BBC News: "Teachers have confessed to making snap judgements about children from their names on the register."
Marcus: Guilty as charged! Although I prefer to think of it as "informed prejudice".
Marcus: "One mother said she had complained to the Department for Education and Skills, saying: 'I and many other parents are disgusted by the attitudes of the teachers on the forum.'"
Marcus: As official spokesman for teachers everywhere, I can reveal that our official response to this complaint is for me to insert my tongue beneath my lower lip and say "mnnnm my name's [name of complaining mother]" and continue by repeating her words with tongue still firmly in place.
gareth: I can see where the kids get it from.
justin: OK, so what the article isn't saying is that - inevitably - if the kid is called Jay-lo-Anne Rutter or something, the parents are going to be impressionable city dwelling teenage hillbillies who aren't likely to raise their children with the kind of diligence you'd expect from a fully rounded adult couple.
justin: Also, how often do you meet mothers who, when faced with reports of their child's misbehaviour, sit back and admit "well, it's easy for me to be subjective and only see the good in my kid, and you know what, they are probably a different person when I'm not watching them, and although it implies that in some way that I haven't been the best parent in the world, I'm willing to accept that Jay-Lo-Anne Rutter may have actually started the fight in the girl's toilets." ? - no,the cliched inevitablity is that their kid is good and would never do something like that, it must have been the other kid.
justin: Forgive me for preaching, but kids get away with murder these days, they are allowed to act how they want when they want and people are powerless to do anything about them. They are given the same rights and freedoms as adults, yet have the minds of hormonal children. I'd say this was a bigger problem with the UK, and possibly the US than immigration, sexism, racism or any of that. We need to start kicking their asses.
